Sixteen people with backgrounds abroad are among the 206 new gardaí who passed out last month.
Metro Éireann has learned that these “non-Irish national” recruits, who graduated on 16 March, hail from seven different countries across three different continents.
In a statement to Metro Éireann, the Garda named some of these new members as Terence Gallagher, Joel Collins, Ryan Duffy, Stephanie Maher, Lisa McNulty, Rebecca Hand, and Michael Harney, all from England. Sarah McInerney from Northern Ireland was also included in the number.
Others are Polish-born Mateusz Wieteska and Andrzej Kufel, and Bojan Klaric, whose country of birth is Croatia. Pádraig Egan and Frances O’Flynn were born in the United States, while Etti Subomi, Kyle McCoy and Aaron Beirne come from Nigeria, South Africa and Australia respectively.
