Cultural links boosted by Chinese book donation
Adding to the growing economic and cultural exchanges between China and Ireland was the recent donation of books by the new China Ireland Media Association to Dun Laoghaire’s Lexicon library.
Comprising 124 books, the collection was organised by the new association of Chinese professionals who have lives in Ireland for many years and want to improve mutual understanding between both cultures, as well as enhance friendship between our peoples.
The books will be distributed to seven libraries within the Dun Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council area. All books are in both Chinese and English, with topics ranging from Chinese traditional customs and the four Classics of Chinese literature, and classical works by ancient Chinese philosophers such as Confucius, Lao Tze and Chuang Tzu.
Many of the books come with beautiful illustrations and some are geared directly at children, meaning that all age groups will benefit from the donation.
DLRCoCo accepted the books at a special ceremony at the Lexicon on 10 April which features a demonstration of traditional Chinese water and ink painting, as well as an interactive session to introduce and explain some of the titles available to readers onsite.
