Apple crumble
This simple dessert can be made any time of the year!
Ingredients:
750g peeled and chopped apples
250ml of white wine (or water)
4 tbsp sugar
For the crumble:
250g flour
1 tsp baking powder
125g sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 medium egg
125g butter
For the topping:
200ml double cream
25g white sugar
Powdered vanilla sugar to taste
Mix all the crumble ingredients till you get a dough with a crumbly texture. Grease a pan with butter and crumble two-thirds of the dough onto the pan. Pour the remaining crumbs on a lined baking paper and place everything in a preheated oven at 180C for about 10-15 minutes. Remove and let the cooked dough cool on a cake stand. When cool, cover with a paper towel.
Next, clean and slice the apples into bite-sized pieces. Prepare the glaze by pouring white wine (or water) and sugar in a pot and bring to the boil, stirring continuously, then pour over the apples in a bowl.
For the creamy topping, whisk the double cream, sugar and vanilla sugar in a bowl until you get stiff peaks.
Place the crumble toasted on the baking paper on a small metal sheet or pan and pour the glazed apples on top. Sprinkle the rest of the crumble on that, then bake for five minutes. Serve immediately with a dollop of vanilla cream and enjoy!
